4 Digital Communication

1 a Explain one reason why some games console controllers use Bluetooth rather than infra-red to connect the console. (1)

Some games console controllers use Bluetooth rather than infra-red to connect the console because Bluetooth allows transmission through walls and other objects.

b State one way in which using infra-red in games console controllers could affect the experience of the person playing the game. (1)

The person playing the game in games console which used infra-red in controllers will not be able to play games from angle and may loss connection because infra-red allows the signal to travel in a straight line only.

2 Describe how video streaming works. (3)

When streaming video, all of the data does not need to be downloaded before playback can start. Instead, a portion of the video data is stored temporarily in an area called a buffer. The video will not start until there is enough data in the buffer to play a few seconds of video. While those few seconds are playing, more data is downloaded to fill up the buffer. If buffer is empty, there is no more video to play and it will pause until more data is downloaded.

3 Explain why streaming is more convenient for the user than downloading. (3)

Streaming is more convenient for the user than downloading because when user is streaming a file, a command will be sent for the file to be stored in his device and this file is only accessible during the streaming and it is stored temporarily in an area called a buffer. The user does not have to wait for the full file to be downloaded before playback can start. But downloading requires physical memory such as hard disk, CD, pen drive to be stored. It requires an allocation of device's space and before playback can start, full file needs to be downloaded.

4 State three types of wired connection. (3)

a. HDMI: High definition multimedia interface is used in digital video connections.

b. USB: Universal serial bus is used in storage transfer.

c. Ethernet: It is sued in networking.

5 Which one of these best describes the internet? (1)

A LAN

B WAN

C PAN

D VLAN

B WAN

6 Explain why global games companies use games servers in multiple countries to ensure that the experience of users is not negatively affected when playing online games. (3)

Global games companies use games servers in multiple countries to ensure that the experience of users is not negatively affected when playing online games. Having multiple game servers in different countries allows players to connect to the server that is geographically closest to them. This reduces the distance that data has to travel between the player's device and the server, resulting in lower latency and faster response times. This can make a significant difference in online games, where even a small amount of lag can negatively affect gameplay and player experience. Having multiple game servers in different countries can help distribute the load on the servers and can help global games companies comply with local regulations and laws. Overall, having game servers in multiple countries helps ensure that players have a fast, reliable and uninterrupted gaming experience, regardless of where they are located.
